Balzac
1992-1998
Balzac formed in 1992 in Japan, playing gigs around Osaka and Tokyo.
Inspired by the you guessed it the Misfits. The name I had always thought
was possibly some type of D
emon
but is aparently in a homage to the 1800s French poet of the same
name, acording to their myspace.
Balzac released their first full length album in 1995, “Last
Men On Earth” through Alchemy Records as a result of their obvious
similarity to the Misfits, (well they look like them with devil lock
hair cuts, make up and Horror movie inspired songs) gained interest
world wide.
In
1997 they left Alchemy Records and signed with Phalanx Records and
released their second album, “Deep.” Shortly after the
release of “Deep,” Balzac were chosen to open for the
Misfits’ first tour of Japan, and also did two nationwide tours
of Japan with the Mad Capsule Markets. On Halloween 1998, Balzac released
their third album, “13 Stairway,”. Greatness was now on
it's way for these Japanese Rock demons.
The
Balzac Toy
In August 2000 the limited production of 2,000 Balzac 12-inch figures
by Medicom Toy Co. proved to be an unprecedented and widely talked
about hit in the figure industry. Balzac and Medicom have since released
many successful toy collaborations, reaching worldwide audiences in
the collectible market.
Balzac Fiendish Club
established in 1999, offers collectibles to club members only.
Balzac Store Shocker
Balzac opened their first official retail store, Shocker, in Osaka
on Halloween 2000.
In
2000 Balzac's fourth album, “Zennou Naru Musuu No ME ha Shi
Wo Yubi Sasu.” Balzac re-entered the studio and re-recorded
their long out-of-print first studio album, “The Last Men on
Earth” with an updated edge.
Balzac's
fifth album The Art of Dying-The Last Men on Earth II,” Takayuki
- Joined the band as the new drummer on this album and in my opinion
has helped improved Balzac's sound in a big way.
